Scripture Reading: Exodus 21-24 - Laws & Commandments

Call to Worship:

Father to the fatherless,

Defender of widows,

Set apart, yet always near:

This is our holy God

Who inhabits our praises!

Whether we come with hearts full of joy,

Or those that are heavy and burdened,

You are always the same, God.

You are worthy to be praised!

Good and gracious,

Just and merciful,

Provider, protector, and sustainer of life

You are righteous in all your works!

You alone deserve our praise!

Confession and Lament:

When we see the brokenness around us,

We grieve the injustice we see:

In our world, our nation, our communities, and in our daily lives

Oppression, violence, division, and despair surround us

We confess we feel helpless and powerless—

Unsure how to act or how to be Your hands and feet.

We beg You to see, to act, to change us and unjust systems

We cry out, “God have mercy!”

There is so much we don’t understand,

So we bring our fears, our tears, and our questions to You,

Knowing that one day, every wrong will be made right

Until then we pray:

“Your kingdom come, Your will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.”

Assurance of Gospel Peace:

(basically paraphrased romans 8)

There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus!
His Spirit has freed us from the power of sin!

The law could not save us

So God did what the law could not do!

He sent His own Son in a body like ours

Though we deserved death, He died for us

And through His sacrifice broke sin’s control over us

Now every requirement of the law is satisfied for us

We no longer have to follow our sinful nature

We are free to follow the leading of the Spirit!

We are free in Christ!
