Our Vision
Cultivating a diverse community of disciples…
In a divided city and world, cultivating a diverse community (in age, economics, race, story, etc.) is hard work. Our community is a community of disciples — people whose unity is rooted in learning from and following Jesus. This is a vision we approach soberly but intentionally, full of faith that God loves to accomplish things that are too big to do without him.
…who belong to Jesus…
We can only be a diverse community of disciples if we belong to Jesus. The things we aim for in our vision only matter if God’s aim is realized in us — that we belong to him. This means we are trusting the Gospel and its power to accomplish this mission. This means we are learning to find our home in Jesus and his church.
…and seek the good of Birmingham.
The best thing we can offer Birmingham is a beautiful, living, diverse church which belongs to Jesus. We are a beacon of hope, a place for the broken, and a group of disciples eager to make a good difference in this place. Whether we are sharing the gospel, making disciples, protesting what is evil, or acting in kindness and civility in a raging culture, we are to pursue goodness-in-action with all the power and responsibility the Lord has entrusted to us.
Our Values
Gospel-Centered
In a world full of information, people are still starving for the truth. Jesus is the only truth that sets us free from sin and makes us new creations. Therefore, we teach from the Bible and teach Jesus (the gospel) as the center of the Bible.
Diverse Fellowship
We value all people and pursue reconciliation, justice, and true friendship to have a diverse church unified under Christ. This requires ever-increasing maturity and a laying down of our preferences out of concern for the welfare of one another.
Wholistic Disciple Making
We desire to make unique disciples of Jesus that last, not cheap replicas. We strive to help new believers and seasoned saints grow into deep Christ-likeness transforming every area of our lives.
Hospitality & Generosity
We invite people into our lives to show and tell them about King Jesus. We are called to use (and sacrifice) our time, talents, and Treasures to fulfill God’s mission with creativity, generosity, multiplication, and even risk.
Our Core Beliefs
Scripture
God wrote the Bible through men and without error. (2 Peter 1:21)
Trinity
God exists eternally in a Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (2 Corinthians 13:14)
Jesus
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He became a man, lived a sinless life, died on a cross, was buried, rose bodily from the grave, and ascended into Heaven to redeem sinful people. (Hebrews 1:3)
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the supernatural agent who applies salvation to sinful people, regenerating, indwelling, sanctifying, and sealing them until the day of Christ’s return. (John 15:26)
Humanity
God creates all people in His image as uniquely male and female. (Genesis 1:27)
Salvation
All people are sinful and in need of salvation. Salvation is a gift of God, given by grace alone, and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 2:8)
The Church
The church is both universal and local. (Acts 2:42)
Restoration
Jesus will return to earth to judge all people and to rule and reign with his saints forever. (Matthew 25:46)
Additionally, we agree with the confessional statement of The Gospel Coalition.
